About This Film
Film Overview
DON'T FOLLOW ME AROUND focuses on Jo, a police psychologist who is called in to Dreileben to help find the escaped killer. The hotel rooms being full, Jo decides to stay at the nearby home of Vera, a friend from university, and her novelist husband Bruno. The couple is busy with the upkeep of their decaying villa, once home to a Communist cultural center. By day, Jo interviews tense and troubled villagers, trying to get them to recall unusual incidents so the police can catch the sex offender lurking in the woods. By night, she enjoys witty, wine-soaked reminiscences with her intellectual friends. Jo and Vera discover they were involved with the same man as students, without knowing it. Disturbed by this revelation, Vera goes to track down the former lover; meanwhile, Jo continues to try to outthink the killer. DON'T FOLLOW ME AROUND's somewhat faded visuals give it a vintage feel, underscoring the film's emphasis on memory and the unreliability of perception. (In German with subtitles) – B.B.
