About This Film
Film Overview
When the producers of “Body and Soul” first envisioned their musical extravaganza about Black American music, they predicted that it would be the biggest musical event in the history of the world – “bigger than Woodstock.” Naturally, they hired a filmmaker (Nick Broomfield) to document this lavish production from start to finish. Then the budget was suddenly cut from $1.6 million to $300,000, marking the first in a long, long line of setbacks and complications that included threats of suicide, physical attacks, and a revolt by the dancers. But Broomfield kept the cameras rolling, maintaining his focus on the musical production, to the undoubted regret of many involved. The result is DRIVING ME CRAZY, a true-life disaster comedy that is fascinating, funny, and consistently entertaining.
