Film Overview
Adapted from noted South African writer J.M. Coetzee's novel, “In the Heart of the Country,” DUST is a prizewinning film about obsession, sexual frustration, despair and power plays between father and daughter, black and white and mistress and servant. Hansel creates an atmosphere of ambiguity and eroticism, charged with an almost palpable tension. Birkin's electrifying performance and the combination of heightened visual and aural effects that counterpoint her interior monologues, make for a stark and powerful character study.
