br /> Set in yuppie-era 1989, Reichert's “political romance” spotlights fortyish documentary filmmaker Alice, unable and unwilling to finish her latest, a talking-head lament for the lost idealism of the 1960s. Inspiration strikes like a slap in the face when she meets Eddie, a young iconoclast with a cynical cable show and neither time nor respect for aging Age-of-Aquarians. Their respective heroes are Emma Goldman and Elvis Costello, and in a time of AIDS, recession and right-wingers, two generations of counter-culture can learn much from each other. A film for everyone with opinions, pro or con, about the 1960s, the 1980s, or Dayton, Ohio, where the picture was filmed using native Ohio talent.
