About This Film
Film Overview
More than a decade spent behind bars in the Romanian penal system has not conspicuously rehabilitated the convicted murderer named Dumitru. Breathing his first free air after serving 11 years, Dumitru commemorates his release by straightaway committing a purely random homicide, an atrocity that affirms anew his life of crime and mayhem. This senseless act of violence is followed by a string of more deliberate ones, as Dumitru, in spite of his cellblock-hardened emotional exterior, gropes to find meaningful connections with other people. When he loses his wife he tries over and over again to replace her, to ground himself in the security of a stable relationship. But his recidivist, brute nature and the strictures of society brand Dumitru an outsider. How can there be hope held out for a no-hoper, an individual so enormously crippled by self-hatred and isolation? A modern parable teeming with potent sounds and unruly compositions, EVERY DAY GOD KISSES US ON THE MOUTH forces the audience on a spiritual journey of a seemingly-damned soul, and sifts through Dumitru's accumulated scars for vital shreds of humanity, and the potential for redemptive transformation.
