Faithless Games

Filmmaker Michaela Pavl?tov? defines her pitch-perfect debut drama as “a chamber piece about love, unfaithfulness, human failings and finding one's self.” At the insistence of her Peter, her composer husband, Eva (a professional pianist) reluctantly moves from Prague to a villa in a town near the Slovakia-Hungary border. Once this was all one nation, but no longer, and Eva feels particularly adrift and alienated when she can't find employment with local musical institutions (because, she suspects, she's not ethnic Slovak). Furthermore M?ria, the woman from whom they bought their new estate, refuses to vacate the grounds, squatting with her fatherless daughter Janka in the detached guest-quarters that Peter wanted to turn into his study (Peter summarily cuts off their water supply, to no avail). Peter and Eva's resigned, brittle marriage becomes ever more strained as Eva finds excuses to visit Prague and linger with old friends, leaving her husband alone in his house of sand and fog.
