About This Film
Film Overview
FINAL FRONTIER is a short documentary about how life’s obstacles are inevitable, and how meaning is shaped by the way we choose to face them.
On a quiet farm in Maine, Denis Boudreau, a blind painter and Vietnam War veteran, prepares the centerpiece for his upcoming art exhibition. Once known for his bold, expressive work, Denis must now navigate a radically different creative process after losing his sight. Guided by Zen philosophy, he approaches painting as a process rather than a result, relying on memory, touch, intuition, and imagination to find his way forward.
As Denis works, memories from his past, including the trauma of war and the circumstances surrounding his blindness, begin to surface. The act of painting becomes both refuge and reckoning, forcing him to confront grief, fear, and questions of identity. What does it mean to be an artist when the way you once experienced the world has changed?
Through intimate moments of creation and reflection, FINAL FRONTIER follows Denis as he redefines perception, creativity, and self-expression, inviting us to reconsider what it truly means to create with vision beyond sight.
