Film Overview

Flint Is a Place is a cross-platform episodic documentary project about Flint, Michigan that explores a specific moment within this American city in an intimate, character driven way. Briana is a young woman from Flint and the sister of Claressa Shields, an Olympic boxing champion. She calls Claressa “her better half.” Briana is a teenage mom. She’s dropped out of high school to raise her baby boy whose father is currently in jail. Briana is completely on her own living off of government funding and barely getting by. While Briana’s situation isn’t unique in Flint, her personality is one of a kind. Living in Claressa’s shadow is a big part of Briana’s story. It’s an extra layer that illustrates how tough a place Flint can be for those stuck below the poverty line. This is her story to tell. RECOMMENDED FOR PERSONS 18 YEARS OR OLDER Flint Is a Place: Episode 1 Briana is part of a cross-platform project that also includes the Interactive Media program Flint Is a Place: Episode 2 Water and the Virtual Reality film Flint Is a Place: Episode 4 Policing Flint. Part of the Perspectives exhibition for immersive storytelling, featuring Interactive Media, Virtual Reality, and more.
