Film Overview

Kym Vercoe travels from Sydney to Sarajevo one summer. Pleased to be touring the Balkans independently, she creates a chatty video journal. A favorite place is Višegrad in Bosnia, where she enjoys the 16th century Ottoman bridge across the Drina River. But at the lovely Vilina Vlas spa resort, she spends an inexplicably restless night. Back in Sydney, she discovers to her horror that, during the Bosnian War of the 90s, Višegrad was the site of a notorious Serbian campaign of ethnic cleansing. Into the beautiful Drina were dumped many bodies of Bosniak men, women, and children. Hundreds of women were raped and killed in the very hotel where Kym spent her sleepless night. Unable to shake off these images, Kym returns to Višegrad. As she moves around seeking ghosts from the past, she feels increasingly oppressed by the town’s living inhabitants. FOR THOSE WHO CAN TELL NO TALES is for all the Višegrad women who suffered and died. (In English and Bosnian with subtitles) —B.B.
