FOUNTAIN

A witty satire that savagely attacks the sub-standard living conditions of daily Soviet life in a big city, FOUNTAIN is vastly entertaining. The residents of a deteriorating apartment house are resigned to the hardships that life has dished out for them, perfectly content in their misery. Their one luxury is water – plenty o f water – until an old man decides to fix some leaking pipes. His efforts set off a series of small disasters. In the dead of winter, the residents are suddenly without water or power, their roof is about to collapse, and the authorities are trying to come up with a face–saving explanation for the chaos. FOUNTAIN's off-the-wall extremes resonate with insight into real Soviet problems in the age of perestroika.
