About This Film
Film Overview
It gets lonely out there in Eastern Oregon; something five small-town teenagers know all too well. Now somewhere between high school and the rest of their lives, they point their compass west, setting out on a 500-mile journey to the Pacific Ocean. From former CIFF Director Spotlights and Ohio-born filmmakers, Bill and Turner Ross.Five Oregon friends say goodbye to high school and hello to the freedom of the open road in GASOLINE RAINBOW, an odyssey on the fringes of the American West. Driving towards the Pacific Coast in their beat up van, the friends head into the unknown, looking for adventure before facing their uncertain futures. Directed by the Ross Brothers, the film blurs the line between fiction and nonfiction to authentically capture life on the margins in the current American moment of economic and social anxiety—as they did in their previous film, “Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets.” As the friends’ journey leads them toward the unexpected, the film gorgeously captures the American landscape—both industrial and pastoral—in a stunning panorama of all its potential and untold stories. —C.F.GUEST(S) IN ATTENDANCE
