Half of Heaven

Set in the early 1960s when Spain was under Franco, HALF OF HEAVEN celebrates female resourcefulness in a repressive male culture. Loosely based on a true story, the film is about a young woman named Rosa and her rise from boscure origins to become the owner of one of Madrid's most elegant restaurants in the post-war era. Along with her failures and successes, Rosa's special relationships with her grandmother, daughter, benefactor, and young admirer are recounted. This Cinderella tale leisurely draws the viewer into its universe where ordinary events and magical happenings are joined without fuss or commentary.
