About This Film
Film Overview
Called HANDSOME HARRY for his rakish good looks, Harry Sweeney (Jamey Sheridan) is celebrating his 52nd birthday. He is charming, smooth, and very well-liked by neighbors and friends. But he always seems to be holding back, not able to entirely connect with others in his life. He receives a call from Tom Kelly (Steve Buscemi), an old Navy buddy, who is on his deathbed and wanting to absolve himself of the guilt from a dark deed committed over 30 years ago during their early Navy days. That guilt pulls Harry to Tom's bedside, and then further to uncover the truth of that day and make good on Tom's request to track down the others involved, especially Cagan (Campbell Scott), against whom the act was committed. Each of the group has dealt with the past in his own way. Rheems (John Savage) is a wine-swilling real estate tycoon. Porter (Aidan Quinn) has turned pacifist professor and refuses to revisit the unpleasant memories. Gephardt (Titus Welliver) found God but not peace, as he can't forgive himself. As the full story emerges, Harry is forced to deal with his own truth. Forgiveness is a powerful thing. – C.C.P.
