About This Film
Film Overview
Aharon and his autistic son Uri have a great routine. They ride their bikes; they watch Charlie Chaplin movies; they eat pasta stars; they feed their fish Yoni, Yaron, and Daniel. Life is good. Aharon, a loving and devoted father, has tried to protect Uri from the harshness of the real world, and he has done well. But now that Uri is an adult, his mother has arranged for him to live in a special home, away from his father. Before they can arrive at the institution, Uri has a complete breakdown at the train station, begging his father not to send him away. Brokenhearted, Aharon makes the split decision to go on the run with Uri rather than surrender him to the court-ordered facility. Incredibly touching and deeply sincere, HERE WE ARE follows Aharon and Uri on their impromptu road trip across Israel, fleeing Uri’s institutionalization. Through their journey, Aharon may come to realize that Uri’s capability for independence is greater than he imagined. (In Hebrew with subtitles) — G.S.
