Film Overview

Any film that casts Dead Kennedys punk rocker Jello Biafra as an American border cop has got to be something special, and HIGHWAY 61 does not disappoint. Pokie is a young barber in Ontario with frustrated musical ambitions. Jackie is a scheming rock'n'roll roadie who hides a cache of cocaine inside an anonymous corpse she claims is her brother. When the hard?hearted woman meets the soft?headed man, she convinces him to drive her and the body down to New Orleans for the family funeral. It's a magical mystery tour to the birthplace of the blues, jazz and voodoo, with Satan himself in close pursuit. This Canadian road odyssey works as comedy, thriller, musical tall-tale and pointed portrait of that big, strange, scary place south of the Great Vaite North.
