Film Overview
Probing into the vivid memories of neighbors, friends, accomplices and victims of the Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie, Marcel Ophuls (THE SORROWAND THE PITY) elicits a fascinating and chilling account of “The Butcher of Lyon's” heinous career. Barbie's path is traced from the Hotel Terminus in Lyons where, as chief of the local Gestapo during the German Occupation, he interrogated, tortured and killed his victims, to his safe haven in Bolivia and back to Lyons for his 1987 trial for crimes against humanity. HOTEL TERMINUS exposes past evils eloquently recalled in moving interviews with Barbie's surviving victims – and warns against their recurrence implicated by still-existing attitudes.
