About This Film
Film Overview
Congratulations, You May Already Have Won . . . a guaranteed good time in this scintillating new comedy with a prize cast led by Kelly MacDonald (also on view at this year's CIFF in “Some Voices”). La Scala is a tattered former opera palace in Wales whose Playhouse Square-worthy interior now witnesses a performing art with at least as much drama and devotees as fanatical: bingo. Even with the heaped seats in the balconies and nonfunctioning toilets, La Scala's games of chance still lure crowds of hopefuls, mostly widows and retirees, seeking to brighten their nights with a minor win. Now threatened with closure and possible demolition due to building code violations, and facing competition from the gleaming new MegaBingo (“15 acres of fun!”) just opened up newarby. La Scala's number may have finally come up. Longtime employee Linda won't let La Scala sing its swan song though; not if she can help it. She possesses an ancestral psychic gift of being able to foretell the bingo numbers as they're called; she can determine the winner of the jackpot. But even when it can be predicted, luck is still a capricious thing, as Linda learns when she tries to bring about a little reversal of misfortune on behalf of the house.
