About This Film
Film Overview
When Angelina arrives at a healing-focused ayahuasca retreat in the dense jungles of Peru, Arturo (one of the resident shamans) determines she’s experiencing “susto,” or “the disease of fear.” Angelina has a valid excuse, however: she is battling cancer and has traveled thousands of miles in search of a nontraditional salve. As ICAROS: A VISION progresses, Angelina strikes up a friendship with Arturo, who has been diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease. Together they face down an uncertain future by learning how to tame the spiritual chaos that often prevents enlightenment. Filmed on location in the Amazon jungle with many non-actors in leading roles, ICAROS: A VISION is a disorienting and immersive movie crafted to resemble the mind-fracturing illumination of a psychedelic ayahuasca trip. But by blending fantasy and reality, sobriety and hallucination, the film also provides beautiful (and, occasionally, unsettling) insights into what people discover when forced outside of their comfort zone. (In English and Spanish with subtitles) —A.Z.
