Set in a Shantytown area of Montenegro in the mid-60s, IN THE NAME OF THE PEOPLE is a tragicomedy about the abuse of power which results in moral collapse and the corruption of truth and justice. Todor, a popular factory director, is arrested under false accustions by petty municipal authorities. After his secret imprisonment without a trial, Todor's wife and children are housed and provided for by Milutin, a scrupulously honest supervisor who tries to find the truth about his boss's dissappearance. But due to his investigations, Milutin loses his job, his home, and his opportunistic wife who is in cahoots with the power-hungry officials. This break-through film is an expose of political corruption at all levels. Because of political pressure, it has not yet been released in Yugoslavia.
