Internal Connections

The film begins with an unpleasant memory from my childhood where my father betrayed my trust and neglected my emotions on the matter. He left me alone wondering if I had been abandoned, only to disregard how concerned I was when he returned.
During my time living with him while my mother was in rehab, I was so angry. Angry at him and how he refused to be a father towards me, and at myself for getting in trouble over and over. The punishments were groundings without friends, or basic human interaction. This would make any teenager spiral, so that’s what I did for months.
It took eighteen years for me to realize that he had never been a father before, and that he didn’t know what he was doing either. It took me almost 20 years to realize that he’s a human being, looking for love and acceptance. Just like me.
