Film Overview

Original Title: Kam-Pipaksa Khong Mahasamut
English Title: Invisible Waves

Ratanaruang's (Someone to Watch, 28th CIFF) INVISIBLE WAVES is the much anticipated follow-up to “Last Life in the Universe.” Ratanaruang sets his new thriller in three different locations-Macau, Hong Kong, and Thailand-each a foreign environment for the main characters. While the story freely moves among these unfamiliar locales, Ratanaruang explores the claustrophobic stagnation of guilt. In Macau, sous-chef Kyoji is having an affair with his boss's wife. When the wealthy boss finds out, he pays Kyoji to dispose of the adulteress and leave town forever. In a desperate act to save his life, Kyoji poisons his lover. He then boards a ship from Hong Kong to Thailand, leaving behind his former life. But doing so isn't that easy. On this solitary journey to an uncertain future, Kyoji's horrific crime begins to haunt him, and a series of unexplainable events follows. With this eerie, gripping, and innovative film, Ratanaruang proves that he is still “Someone to Watch.” (In Japanese, Korean, Thai, and English with English subtitles) – E.J.B.
