Ratanaruang's (Someone to Watch, 28th CIFF) INVISIBLE WAVES is the much anticipated follow-up to “Last Life in the Universe.” Ratanaruang sets his new thriller in three different locations-Macau, Hong Kong, and Thailand-each a foreign environment for the main characters. While the story freely moves among these unfamiliar locales, Ratanaruang explores the claustrophobic stagnation of guilt. In Macau, sous-chef Kyoji is having an affair with his boss's wife. When the wealthy boss finds out, he pays Kyoji to dispose of the adulteress and leave town forever. In a desperate act to save his life, Kyoji poisons his lover. He then boards a ship from Hong Kong to Thailand, leaving behind his former life. But doing so isn't that easy.
