Call it “CSI: Iceland.” A young husband, Orn, has just lost his young daughter to a rare brain tumor. Determined to understand this, he begins searching Iceland's extensive genetic records. Because of its small size and homogenous population, the country has the world's best geneology records. At the same time, the police are beginning to study a brutal, senseless murder. How can there be a connection? The police team, led by Erendur, finds few leads as the victim was a little-known drifter. Following the few leads to a motive, we accompany Erlendur through the city and small towns in the area, allowing viewers to see the unique landscape of Iceland. As the two deaths begin to have a common thread, Erlendur acquires a personal interest in the father's loss because his own twenty-something daughter is slipping away from him through the lifestyle she is living. What secret can be exposed between the child's brain tumor and a similar death 30 years ago? Perhaps the needed link can be found in the storeroom of the genetics office's JAR CITY at the morgue.
