Film Overview

This unconventional profile of award-winning Puerto Rican bodybuilder Jeannette Feliciano, who survived the deadly mass shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub in 2016, focuses on the day-to-day hardships of living with trauma and how one raises a child with resilience, strength, and love in a country plagued by mass shootings. —M.G.This soulful and patient documentary follows the daily life of Jeannette Feliciano, a queer Puerto Rican woman living in Orlando, Florida in the wake of the Pulse massacre. Between preparing for bodybuilding competitions and raising her son, Felicianois driven to make a positive impact on her community through love and support as a personal trainer. But her drive is also fueled by heartbreak. In JEANNETTE we witness her romantic disappointment, her struggles with a religious mother, and the effect that surviving the Pulse shooting has had on her psyche. Through it all, and told with bracing intimacy, Feliciano’s story of becoming a beacon of love and support against the odds is one of queer determination in the face of tragedy. —C.F.
