Film Overview

Most of us only get in the mood for Christmas music once a year. Some people—especially those who work retail—think even that's too often. For music enthusiast Mitchell Kezin, his obsession for holiday tunes extends well beyond the season itself. It all began with Nat King Cole's The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot. As a child, Mitchell related to the song's emotional message about a lonely little boy with an absent father. From there, he realized that Christmas music was broader and more complex than the generic mainstream fare we often hear. He began digging through dusty crates at records stores, looking for the most obscure LPs he could find. It's a fascinating passion that's remained strong for over 25 years. Mitchell's sincere excitement is extremely contagious. Even the biggest haters will gain a new appreciation for seasonal ditties. With appearances from Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips), John Waters, Joseph “Run” Simmons (Run DMC), Dr. Demento, and more, JINGLE BELL ROCKS! is an undeniably delightful documentary about a very unlikely hobby. —E.F.
