:uigi Pirandello wrote many tales about peasant life in the ravishing but ominous landscape of Sicily. Here, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani (NIGHT OF THE SHOOTING STARS, PADRE PADRONE) magnificently adapt five of these stories with irony, mystery, and compassion. Each of these differs widely from others in terms of content and tone, but all come together to leave on with a very distinct impression of the world. It is the Taviani's style and use of location and lighting that make the film as a whole a work of staggering physical beauty.
