About This Film
Film Overview
LA DEMORA introduces us to Maria, who is raising three children in a very cramped apartment and living on the little she earns as a garment worker. Maria’s elderly and ailing father Agustin also lives with them, pushing her to the limits of endurance. He often wanders away and becomes lost, leading to frantic searches. She needs him gone, but the state will only take him if he is homeless and a private home is beyond reach. One night she acts on an unthinkable impulse. She abandons Agustin in a public park, hoping the authorities will take him to a facility. But shame overwhelms her. She returns to find him, but Agustin isn’t there. The painful search that follows is the heart of this intense and powerful drama. Time is short. Agustin is ill and the night is freezing. As Maria looks in every corner of the city for her father, she is also forced to look into the corners of her soul and face the true meanings of love and family. (In Spanish with subtitles) – C.R.
