About This Film
Film Overview
A quintessential French film, LE PONT DES ARTS meditates on philosophy, love, art, and redemption through four characters searching for?je ne sais quoi. Described as a Parisian drama/comedy of manners, LE PONT DES ARTS may as well be set on the bridge of sighs: Pascal is a despondent student who is failing; his girlfriend Christine is a rising philosophy master; Sarah is a gifted singer constantly abused by her conductor; Sarah?s boyfriend is a computer programmer?sensitive, yet unable to grasp the depth of Sarah?s despair. These twenty-somethings address the private meanings and the redemptive power of art, alongside over-the-top salon performances on acting, and lingering shots of the Seine. It?s clear that Pascal and Sarah belong together: their despondencies are similar, their paths cross several times, and they are both reading the poetry of Michelangelo ? considered ?the father of the Baroque.? They eventually meet on the bridge, but under extreme circumstances. Look for a hilarious rendition of one Surrealist?s work and the gorgeous Monteverdi aria ?Lamento della ninfo.?
