John Gielgud stars as John Middleton Murry, widower of author Katherine Mansfield. Decades after his wife's death, Murry finds himself falling in love with a young woman (Jane Birkin) who could pass as her double. Now he must confront his doubts about how well has has served his wife's memory. By publishing the manuscripts that she specifically asked him to destroy, Murry has garnered for himself a lifelong income — and for his wife a lasting literary reputation.
