Film Overview

b>NORTH AMERICAN PREMIEREWhen Nicolas James appeared in this world he was 100 days early, weighed one pound, and had a survival chance of .0004%. The second child of filmmaker Nicole Conn and Gwen Baba of Los Angeles, Nicolas was delivered from a surrogate mother at 25 weeks. As this extremely intimate film reveals, one mother?s fierce desire to keep this premature baby alive was at odds with everyone around her. Even if Nicolas survived his first year, he would still only have a 50% chance of living. LITTLE MAN documents a most incredible family under severe stress, and takes a camera into a world most people never see: the NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit). Extensive interviews with doctors, nurses, friends and especially Gwen are full of pain and awe. Yet the star of the show is Nicolas, who doesn?t even look human upon his arrival, but whose slow progression and bright expression are riveting.
