Film Overview

Exploring the conflicts of old world values and the hopes of a younger generation, this warm, delightful comedy reflects the universal immigrant experience. Arun, a young man in his early 20s, is filled with anticipation and excitement as he lands in New York City on a flight from his native Calcutta. He is met by his uncle/ sponsor Max, who promptly sets him up in an ideal American job, working at one of Uncle Max's newsstands. Uncle Max has a stiflingly traditional approach to family duty and honor, and Arun yearns for a chance to escape home life at Max's where personal freedoms are hard to come by. When Arun is offered a job with a computer firm and moves out on his own, he gets a truer picture of the American Dream in all its faded glory.
