Film Overview

In light of the devastating impact which AIDS has had on society and in particular on the gay community, it is disquieting to note how few feature films have been made on the subject. No one film could fill the resultant void, but LONGTIME COMPANION is an exceptional drama that does its part, examining the impact AIDS has had on the gay community in an honest, sensitive and timely manner. The film follows the lives of a group of men in New York City, from the time of the first mystifying reports of the disease in 1981 to the more informed but equally uncertain present. Every member of the group is affected in some way by the disease, and each reacts differently. More than a film just about AIDS, LONGTIME COMPANION is a touching, absorbing, frequently humorous film about love, dignity and courage.
