About This Film
Film Overview
After Grace steals the contents of her father’s safe, she sets off a series of events that are far-reaching in their scope and final in their results. LOOKING FOR GRACE is a family tale told in non-linear narrative, which supports its themes of the casualness of destiny. While we get a glimpse of Grace’s exploits as a runaway, including a run-in with the boy who steals her bags, we are also shown how her parents’ lives may have led to the teenager’s transgressions. In searching for their child, Dan (Richard Roxburgh) and Denise (the flawless Radha Mitchell) confront what’s missing in their own suburban marriage—providing perspective into lives that should be filled with structure, but instead are speckled with misdeed. At times introspective, LOOKING FOR GRACE also provides spectacular humor in the moments that dare to reach beyond the mundane. Beautifully shot with engaging performances, LOOKING FOR GRACE is a rare film that allows itself to branch out without straying too far from home. –T.W.
