Spain's most prominent director, Carlos Saura (“Blood Wedding,” “Carmen”) departs from his recent concentration on dance to return to drama is LOS ZANCOS, a poignant story of unrequited love. Angel (Fernando Fernan Gomez) is a writer and university prof whose severe depression after his wife's death deepens in autumn when he goes to his summer cottage in the mountains. Attempting suicide, he is saved by a pretty neighbor, Teresa (Laura del Sol, “Carmen”). She lives nearby with Alberto and their baby. Angel writes a piece for Alberto's theater-on-stilts and Tersa, 30 years younger than the prof, reluctantly begins a passionate relationship with him. When she refuses to continue their affair, Angel's hopeless obsession for her leaves him only one solution. . .
