About This Film
Film Overview
In writer/director Katherine Propper’s feature debut, which invites comparisons to Andrea Arnold’s “American Honey,” young, starry-eyed East Austin rapper Sol (Suave Sidle) impulsively joins a hip-hop collective as their hype man, only to struggle with his on- and off-stage identities, as they make their way across Texas.Rising rap artist Sol has his sights set on fame but can’t seem to find a way out of Austin, Texas. After a night of hard partying with his best friend, Wesley, a young hip-hop group invites Sol to join them on the road to chase their music dreams. Feeling like this is his ticket to stardom, Sol jumps at the chance to go on tour, hops in the van, and embarks on the journey of a lifetime. Despite the highs of being on stage, the creative process of late-night freestyling, and gramworthy sightseeing, the tug of home and everything he left behind weighs heavily on Sol, and he wonders if it’s really all worth the hype. With a number of musical performances from an up-and-coming rap generation, LOST SOULZ offers a fresh look at taking risks, making mistakes, and finding yourself along the way. —A.B.
