About This Film
Film Overview
Cigarettes lit, the three young men arrange the exhaust pipe to feed into the interior of the car, close the door, start the engine, and… die. No note. No explanation. The deaths of Berni, Elmar, and Christian are a mystery to their families left behind. All try to resume the activities of everyday life, but how can they go on? Each is both bound and isolated by varying degrees of coping. Everyday acts are laden with other meaning. Life is never normal as the surrounding adults measure each action of the young people left behind. Like waiting for the other shoe to drop, no one feels immune from future heartbreak. Each family member deals with the tragedy in different ways from acceptance to denial to grasping for any kind of information and trying to unravel the motivation and details. Questions unanswered begin to drive them mad. Nerves fray and composure starts to come undone. But maybe there is life after death. MARCH is a compelling, intimate depiction of the aftermath of a catastrophe and a particular kind of grief. (In German with English subtitles) – C.C.P.
