In this white-hot heartbreaker of a romantic drama that mixes narrative with real-life footage, young students Hania and Janek fall in love, only to discover their families are on different sides of a contentious period in Polish history: she’s Jewish and his father works for the anti-Zionist government. —M.G.

Set in 1968 Warsaw, MARCH ’68 follows young actress Hania and photographer Janek, both enmeshed in a community of student artists. Hania and Janek begin a passionate relationship, but fate is already working against them: their parents are on opposite political lines, with Hania’s father discovered to have changed his identity to hide his Jewish heritage. As protests among students begin to erupt, the young lovers find themselves targets for investigation and with grave consequences. A thrilling romance set against historical upheaval and intergenerational strife, this film takes a passionate and personal look at Poland in the decades after WWII and reflects on a generation of Jews forced out of the country. —C.F.
