Film Overview

br /> This dangerously antiestablishment film won popular acclaim in its native Bulgaria a year before the 1989 fall of that country's totalitarian government. Writer/director Nikolai Volev follows two young rebellious lovers who drop out of society together and find their love insufficient armor against the slings and arrows of a corrupt world. The film explores important subjects rarely dealt with in Bulgarian cinema: official corruption, homosexuality, prostitution, and the feeling of hopelessness that permeates much of the youth culture. Said Volev: “I tried my best not to make a boring and unemotional film * ” He succeeded with this tough and courageous work.
