Film Overview

Follow by Marottes is an ethereal dark synthpop music video inspiring an escape of the existential doomscroll we find ourselves meandering in this era.

Follow is part of the Marottes audiovisual album Phantasmagoria, which releases April 17, 2026.

Marottes is the alt electronic darkwave moniker of filmmaker Mike Mytnick.

After a decade working in the media industry across New York and Los Angeles, Mytnick returned home to Cleveland, Ohio to create Marottes, a project born of disillusionment of the status quo and feeling stuck between two worlds.

Inspired by the original outsider, the court jester, the project takes its name from the marotte, the puppet carried by jesters, and the witchy symbolism of tarot. Marottes exists as the archetype of the Fool: a person finding the courage to go on a new adventure into the unknown.

Echoing the Fool’s Journey in tarot, Marottes guides lonely misfits on a path of self-discovery through analog synths, distorted vocals, and reflective lyrics. Blending dark synthpop and alternative electronic influences, his music draws from gothic allegories, the depths of Lake Erie, and the experience of navigating loneliness in a world on the edge of collapse. Marottes invites listeners to embrace introspection, transform fear into confidence, and dance unapologetically through the darkness.
