About This Film
Film Overview
MOLLY’S THEORY OF RELATIVITY, the latest surreal comedy by New York indie filmmaker Jeff Lipsky, takes place one day in the life of a beautiful 28-year-old astronomer. Molly is the kind of person whose life is based on certainties—until now. It’s Halloween and weird things are happening in the crowded apartment she shares with her fanatically devoted husband, Zak. Molly has unexpectedly lost her job, and she and Zak are contemplating whether they can survive on his pay as an hourly wage slave. When Zak’s dad calls him out for not doing something “meaningful” with his life, the two almost come to blows. As Molly’s deceased mother and grandmother cook endless family meals in the kitchen, a precocious trick-or-treating girl dressed as Einstein – who might have been Molly a few years ago – adds to the heady conversation. MOLLY’S THEORY OF RELATIVITY reminds us of the relativity of everything in life, from the pride we take in our work to death itself. – B.G.
