Mom

A mother in a hospital bed wakes in the middle of the night, sick and in pain, but alive, her son asleep in a chair near her. She notices his fallen blanket and, with what energy she has left, pulls herself from the bed, and struggles to make it across the room. In her last moments, she covers her son with his blanket, a final act of motherly love. She returns to her bed, smiles at her son, and passes away. In the morning, her son wakes and rushes to his mother, distraught but recognizing she is at peace as he says goodbye.
