Film Overview

Original Title: Badereh El Hajatulim
English Title: Mrs. Moscowitz and the Cats

Mrs. Moscowitz (she'd be “Yolanda” to her friends, except she doesn't have any) is bothered by the yowling cats outside her apartment building. A fastidious older lady who used to teach French, she takes care with her makeup and hairdo, and cooks elegant meals even though she dines alone. One evening, as Mrs. Moscowitz is throwing buckets of water down at the horrible cats out her window, she inadvertently tosses her bucket overboard with the water. As she makes her way down the several stories to retrieve it, a serious misstep causes her to tumble. When she awakens, Mrs. Moscowitz finds herself in a hospital where she's recuperating from having a plate put in her fractured hip. She is initially irritated with the chaos and the fact that she must share a room, and frustrated by her loss of independence. But one day she meets the charismatic Shaul, a dynamo on crutches who used to play on a French soccer team. As their friendship blossoms, Yolanda starts to rethink her outlook on life; and for the first time, she sees beauty in the minutiae of the everyday. MRS. MOSCOWITZ AND THE CATS features an absolutely mesmerizing performance by actress Rita Zohar. (In Hebrew and French with subtitles) – B.B.
