Film Overview

Dutch-born Australian director Paul Cox (“Lonely Hearts,” “Man of Flowers”) continues to focus on alienation and loneliness in today's society in MY FIRST WIFE, his 6th film. John (John Hargreaves) is a self-absorbed composer and classical disk jockey. Certain of a negative reply, he asks his wife, Helen (Wendy Hughes) if she's ever been unfaithful. He's opened a can of worms; not only is Helen having an affair, she's taking their daughter and leaving him. His world collapsed, John can't cope and obsessively tries to restore order in ways that make everything worse. A harrowing portrait of the traumatic disintegration of a marriage, MY FIRST WIFE won Australian Academy Awards for Best Actor, Best Director and Best Screenplay.
