Film Overview

Original Title: Guibord s'en va-t-en guerre
English Title: My Internship in Canada

When hockey stardom lands Steve Guibord the position of a Member of Parliament in Canada, nothing could prepare him for being unexpectedly bestowed the swing vote in whether or not to send the country to war in the Middle East. It’s a bewildering twist of fate for the docile politician, who has spent most of his career as an unaffiliated party member, coasting from his office above a lingerie shop, until he finds himself comically stumbling into the public eye. To skirt around decisiveness, he declares he’ll tour his constituency to consult public opinion in what he assures will be “a window for democracy.” But in war and peace, the best intentions often run astray. Traveling with his contentious wife, Suzanne, liberal daughter, Lune, and an amusingly over-the-top idealistic Haitian intern named Souverain, his town halls quickly dissolve into a circus of lobbyists and media frenzy. With Guibord caught not only between the opposing views of an entire nation, but his family too, it’s up to Souverain to take the wheel in MY INTERNSHIP IN CANADA—an all-out satirical shot at democracy and the everyday absurdities of politics.
