No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson

In NO CROSSOVER, Oscar nominee Steve James (“Hoop Dreams”) returns to his home town of Hampton, Virginia to take a look at the infamous trial of basketball great Allen Iverson in 1993. Seventeen-years-old at the time, and considered to be the nation's best high school athlete (in football as well as basketball), Iverson was in a bowling alley on Valentines' Day with a group of friends when violence erupted. Iverson and his black friends were pitted against a group of whites, and Iverson was accused of hitting a young woman on the head with a chair and causing a cut that required stitches. The incident drew media attention and divided opinions along racial lines. Iverson was tried as an adult and eventually went to jail for four months. James interviews coaches, attorneys, and others who worked with Iverson, all of whom still feel strongly about the trial today. – B.B.
