About This Film
Film Overview
A searing portrayal of post-war reality in the Balkans, NO ONE'S SON focuses on the physical and emotional stress suffered by one family. Ivan is 36, a former rock musician and reluctant hero of the Croatian Homeland War who was forced by Serbian paramilitaries to run through minefields until his legs were blown off. Now in a wheelchair, alienated from his wife and child, depressed and unable to start his life over, he drinks excessively and lives at home with his parents. Ivan's father Izidor, who was a political prisoner years ago in the former Yugoslavia, is now running for Parliament. Ivan refuses to support him, not wanting to be used in public as a poster boy. Suddenly, a Serbian refugee named Simo resurfaces in their village after being away for many years. Simo was the former Communist official who committed Izidor to prison all those years ago and he knows something that could hurt both Izidor's political campaign and also his wife, Ana. Overwhelmed by Simo's reappearance, Izidor and Ana take things into their own hands. When Ivan discovers something shocking about Simo, his death wish takes on manic proportions. (In Croatian with English subtitles) – B.B.
