About This Film
Film Overview
In 2016 Ady Barkan was on top of the world. Passionate about his work as a political organizer, happily married to his college sweetheart, and raising a beautiful little boy, Ady had it all. And then he noticed a strange weakness in his left hand. After visiting his doctor and running some tests, Ady received the devastating diagnosis: ALS, and it was progressing quickly. As if his terminal prognosis wasn’t difficult enough, Ady’s insurance company then denied him coverage for a ventilator that he desperately needed to live. Throughout his life as an activist, Ady had always fought for social issues, but none had ever hit so close to home. Given only four years to live, Ady Barkan makes the incredible commitment to fight for healthcare reform with his final breaths. As his physical voice becomes weaker, the collective voice of his expansive movement only becomes stronger. An intimate and deeply moving portrait documentary, NOT GOING QUIETLY follows Ady Barken as he battles the political system, and the limitations of his own body, so we may all live fuller, healthier lives. — G.S.
