About This Film
Film Overview
Mysteries, phantoms, and almost-indescribable beauty haunt every frame of this foreboding feature, with a narrative both enigmatic and ominously familiar. During a dull road trip, adolescent siblings Odile and Yvette bolt from their father's banal station wagon and begin a strange journey through a lush landscape of sunswept glades, gnarled trees, and windcarved cliffs, to where Yvette has assured her sister a magical haven awaits them both. Father pursues close behind-but why does he seem unable to see them? How can Yvette produce impossible trinkets, clothing and even meals from their small valises? Ultimately the youthful adventurers find a wonderful friend, a new home, and fresh delights for the senses, but have they truly taken an exit to Eden, or are they trapped in Paradise? Abundant dream-logic (with undercurrents of nightmare) plus the most glorious cinematography you're likely to witness this Festival make the surreal odyssey of Odile and Yvette a modern-day visions that seduces the eye and tantalizes the mind.
