A prizewinner at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, Cristina Grosan and Klára Vlasáková’s science-fiction drama of three women—a middle-aged widow, a lonely teenager, and a harried mother—struggling to find connection and meaning in their lives as a series of international crises threatens to end the world as they know it. —M.G.

The lives of three isolated women living in the same city, but who do not know one another, are about to collide in ORDINARY FAILURES. Hana is a recent widow, growing isolated by her grief therapy and being pushed out of her job. Tereza is a queer teenager, forced into averageness by her parents as they throw her a 13th birthday party. And Silva is a parent struggling for a path forward after her son strikes another boy. All three of their lives will converge in unexpected but meaningful ways as they each search for connection and reconciliation while an unexplained catastrophic natural event overtakes their city. —C.F.
