Film Overview

Young feminist phenomenon. Princess of hip-hop. Reggaeton niños. This is P-Star. Otherwise known as Priscilla Diaz, the youngest female rapper ever. A documentary about family, fame, and hardship, P-STAR RISING follows the Diaz family for four years as they go from broke, to making it big, and back to broke again. As charming as she is sassy, P-Star is a Puerto Rican diva, following her dreams and flaunting that style. Whether it's freestyle rapping on the streets of Harlem where she lives, or performing on a stage in front of thousands in Mexico, she is a born star who will win you over in a heartbeat. Jesse is her father, teacher, and manager. A single dad who has raised P-Star and her older sister Solskye since their drug-addicted mother disappeared, family means everything to Jesse and he'll do what he can to give his girls a better life. When P-Star scores a record deal their lives change. But with big money comes big responsibilities and even bigger problems. P-STAR RISING is a touching film that will leave you not just rooting for this family, but most likely also checking for P-Star's album the next time you're at the record store. – M.M.
