About This Film
Film Overview
When a young doctor is killed in a car accident, Matthew Harris, an orderly, sees his chance to escape his dreadfully boring life. Stealing the dead man's name and his papers, Matthew successfully applies for the post of emergency room physician at a major hospital in Bristol. Dangerously incompetent on the job, he is saved by Christine (Amanda Donohoe), a sympathetic nurse who believes him to be just another hopelessly inexperienced young doctor. With her tutelage, things go smoothly until, inevitably, one of Matthew's patients dies. As the lines between negligence and murder blur, Matthew's past finally catches up with him and his deceptions spiral out of control. Christopher Morahan creates a palpable sense of panic throughout the film, making PAPER MASK a superior thriller.
